Account & Login
How do I create an NGEN account?
NGEN uses phone-based verification for secure sign-in. Enter your phone number, receive a verification code via SMS, and enter the code to access your account. If you're a new user, you'll be asked to complete your profile with your name, date of birth, graduation year, gender, and community before accessing the app.
I'm not receiving my verification code. What should I do?
  1. Make sure you entered your phone number correctly, including the country code.
  2. Check that your phone has cellular service or Wi-Fi.
  3. Wait 1-2 minutes — SMS delivery can sometimes be delayed.
  4. Try requesting a new code by tapping "Resend Code."
  5. If the issue persists, contact us using the form below.
Can I change my phone number?
Yes! You can update your phone number in your profile settings. Open the app, go to the "You" tab, tap the settings icon, and edit your phone number in the profile modal.
What is the minimum age to use NGEN?
You must be at least 13 years old to create an NGEN account. Your date of birth is verified during the profile setup process. Users under 18 should have a parent or guardian review the app and our Terms of Service before registering.
Using the App
How do I check in to an opportunity?
To check in, you must be physically at the opportunity location. Navigate to the opportunity in the app and tap the "Check In" button. The app uses your phone's GPS to verify your location. Once verified, you'll earn MentorChips for your participation!
How does swiping work on the Engage tab?
The Engage tab shows community opportunities as cards. Swipe right if you're interested in an opportunity, or swipe left to pass. Your preferences help us personalize your feed and show you more relevant opportunities over time.
What are MentorChips and how do I earn them?
MentorChips are NGEN's virtual reward currency. You earn them by:
  • Checking in to community opportunities (volunteering, events, activities)
  • Completing pathway milestones and tasks
  • Participating in community programs
You can view your balance on the "You" tab and redeem them in the Shop.
How do I redeem MentorChips?
Go to the Shop tab to browse available rewards from local partner businesses. When you find something you'd like, tap "Redeem" and your MentorChips will be deducted. Follow the instructions shown for how to claim your reward with the partner business.
Account Management
How do I update my profile information?
Go to the "You" tab and tap the settings gear icon. You can edit your name, phone number, and profile photo. Note that some fields (date of birth, graduation year, gender, and community) are protected and cannot be changed after initial setup. If you need to update a protected field, please contact support.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account directly in the app:
  1. Open the NGEN app and go to the "You" tab.
  2. Tap the settings gear icon to open your profile.
  3. Scroll down and tap "Delete Account."
  4. Confirm by typing DELETE when prompted.
Warning: Account deletion is permanent. You will lose all MentorChips, check-in history, pathway progress, and personal data. This action cannot be undone.
What data do you collect and how is it used?
NGEN collects information necessary to provide our community engagement services, including your name, phone number, date of birth, and location during check-ins. We use this data to personalize your experience, track participation, and manage MentorChips rewards. For full details, please review our Privacy Policy.
Troubleshooting
The app isn't loading or is showing errors.
Try these steps:
  1. Close and reopen the app.
  2. Check your internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular data).
  3. Make sure you have the latest version of the app installed.
  4. Restart your phone.
  5. If the problem continues, use the "Report a Bug" feature in the app or contact us below.
My check-in isn't working or says I'm not at the location.
Check-in requires GPS location access. Make sure:
  • Location services are enabled on your phone.
  • You have granted NGEN permission to access your location.
  • You are physically at or very near the opportunity location.
  • You're outdoors or near a window — GPS can be less accurate indoors.
